Adult Ministry
Prayer Blanket Project
This pile of squares is one of the many that will be assembled into prayer blankets. Those blankets will be presented to needy Detroiters each Fall and Winter.
You can help!
The Prayer Blanket Project is our version of the more widely known Prayer Shawl Ministry (http://www.shawlministry.com/). A prayer blanket is knitted or crocheted in squares then stitched together to form a blanket. Prayers of blessing, healing, hope, and thanksgiving are woven into the blankets as each stitch is worked. A final group blessing over the finished blanket is held upon completing assembly of each blanket.
Instructions:
As this is a spiritual endeavor, we suggest that before you begin to knit or crochet, you may say a blessing or prayer, to dedicate the work of your hands and to hold the recipient in prayer.
You can knit or crochet your square with any fiber, color, or pattern. We are just asking that the finished square be 8"x 8". (The prayer shawl website has a lot of interesting information on prayers and symbolism for your squares.)
You can mail or drop off your finished squares to:
Saint Clair Shores First United Methodist Church
24036 Greater Mack Ave.
Saint Clair Shores, MI 48080
(Office Hours are Tuesdays-Thursdays 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.)
Squares can be dropped off at any time throughout the summer until September 1st.
Thursdays from 6 - 8 p.m starting each September - October, we will have fellowship in the chapel, to work on our squares . . Each week we will be working on a new stitch or technique for our squares to help broaden our skills. Don't know how to knit or crochet? Stop on by, there are plenty of talented women who can show you how to start.
Our finished blankets will be donated to area shelters.
